“Since everything is a reflection of our minds… Everything can be changed in our minds.” -Buddah
Yesterday I was working on a project in the art building, though I’m a business major, and had a thought. More so a feeling. I couldn’t necessarily put my finger on what it was, but I was not enjoying the current moment. This prompted me to get out of my chair and begin a mini soul-search while gazing out the window at the beauty of nature all around me.
Things that stuck out to me:
I then though to myself? Why the hell am I still standing on the inside looking out?
My next move was to my backpack to grab a book and headed to the exact spot that I was staring at just moments before. The book that I grabbed was Strengths Finder 2.0. The reason why I thought this was the book to read at the time was because I wanted to inject myself into two things. I wanted to enter a meditative state of mind about my personal strengths as a human being, and enter it surrounded by the beauty of our physical universe. My day went from “0 to 100” extremely fast.
After reading page after page for a good chunk of time (time being something that I was unaware of in this state), I just set the book down, closed my eyes, and began to reflect on what was going on. Not what happened in the past. Not what was to happen in the future. Just what was going on in those very seconds. My goal was to get in tact with my internal compass; what were my feelings telling me? I decided to let them simply flow from my mind, to each nerve end in my body.
I then took a moment to decide on an immediate plan of action for these feelings. This plan entailed going back to the art building and finishing up whatever I could on my project; leaving as soon as I felt a blockage in productive though and hoping on my longboard to take the long-way home.
This has been just a small example of the importance of reflection. My challenge to you is to take the time out of your day today to reflect. Whether that be the reflection of a feeling, a sign, a situation, an action, etc. Take the time to explore what the Universe is trying to tell you today. It may be later tonight before you go to be (which I find to be my favorite time), it may be mid-day on a random patch of grass in the midst of a beautiful sunny September day. Just do it. Write down what this experience felt like in your own personal journal; what did the Universe tell you? What did you learn about yourself?
Have an absolutely wonderful day. You will never be able to get it back.

Things that stuck out to me:
- The sun shining on the grass creating a beautiful green reflection
- The blue sky that seemed to have shades of blue that I may or may not ever see again on any other day of my life
- The wind crashing against the tips of the trees
- The leaves beginning to change into their fall uniform (which seemed as though it were happening right in front of my eyes
- The hill that seemed to drop off at the perfect angle to create the “best seat in the house” to enjoy the beauty of it all
I then though to myself? Why the hell am I still standing on the inside looking out?
